Exhibition of the Awarded Projects of the Second Edition of the Student Ideas Competition UTOPIA on the Topic of LESS at S AM Swiss Architecture Museum.
The broad range of submissions for the competition announced by Itten+Brechbühl under the motto LESS revealed a clear trend: aspiring architects are moving away from the original concept of utopia in favor of a so-called pragmatopia. The authors are thus acutely aware that the current modus operandi prevailing in today's construction industry must move towards LESS.
Some of the projects feature a distinctly holistic as well as inclusive philosophy. Re-use and a new form of socialism are also central themes. One contribution has similarities with artistic performance, and the «serious» slapstick of another project group urges us to reconsider our lifestyle.
