Mehrotra is an architect and Professor of Urban Design and Planning at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. As founding partner of the Mumbai- and Boston-based practice RMA Architects, he has realized numerous projects with different scales and programs, including the renovation of the Chowmahalla and Falukhnama Palaces in Hyderabad, a housing complex for one hundred elephants and their caretakers in Jaipur, and the laboratory building «Virchow 16» on the Novartis Campus in Basel. In 2018, RMA Architects was recognized with a «Special Mention» for their contribution to the exhibition «Freespace» at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Mehrotra writes and lectures regularly on architecture, conservation, and urban planning in India, and in particular Mumbai.
