Raga Jaunpuri is a late morning raga of the Asavari Thaat composed by Amir Khusro during the reign of the Mughal emperor Akbar in the 16th century. The soft and pleasing raga with simple nuances has been chosen by Rajrupa Chowdhury for its divine emotional quality to touch the soul and the mind.
The sarod is a popular Indian classical stringed instrument similar to the Western Lute in structure. It is known for a deep, weighty, introspective sound. The body of the sarod is carved from a single block of wood, preferably teak, with one end being rounded and covered with goatskin. The six-stringed, fretless instrument is able to produce the continuous slides between notes, known as meend.
This concert is the second event in the forefront of the exhibition “Bengal Stream. The Vibrant Architecture Scene of Bangladesh” which will be on view at S AM Swiss Architecture Museum from 2 December 2017 – 6 May 2018.

Rajrupa Chowdhury, born in Kolkata, India, is an Indian Classical musician of the sarod. Since age five she has taken talim (lessons in music in a specific traditional manner) from Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury and later from Professor Sanjoy Bandhopdhyay. In 2005 Ms Chowdhury obtained Masters with distinction from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata. She is an A Grade artist of All India Radio (AIR), generally considered as the benchmark for professional performing artists in Indian Classical Music. She divides her time between Kolkata and Dhaka and performs internationally.

Prabhu Edouard is an Indo-French percussionist and composer. The worthy disciple of renowned tabla maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh is regarded as one of the most versatile tabla players of his generation. He also works in the world music and jazz genre.
